A Resilient Journey
From Separation to Family Empowerment
August 27, 2024
Rufe Teshite, a determined woman from East Shoa, Adami Tulu Jido Kombolcha Woreda, and Abine Garmama Kebele, faced significant challenges when she sent her two children to work for wealthier families in different kebeles. The separation from her children weighed heavily on her heart, but a referral letter from the district women and child affairs office would soon change the trajectory of her life.
Recognizing Rufe's plight, our dedicated BCS social workers conducted thorough assessments and provided comprehensive training to empower her family. The goal was twofold: to improve their overall livelihood and ensure the permanency of her children's care. Rufe's determination and hard work paid off. Leveraging the skills she had plans she began supplying 40 goats every week to the Modjo slaughterhouse. This entrepreneurial endeavor resulted in substantial earnings in just six months.
Fueled by her newfound success, Rufe has ambitious plans. In the short term, she aims to double the number of goats per week to the Modjo Slaughterhouse factory. Looking further ahead, her long-term vision is to export goats for foreign slaughter, expanding her business and solidifying her family's financial security. Rufe Teshite's journey exemplifies resilience, determination, and the transformative power of empowerment programs. Her story serves as an inspiration to other families facing similar challenges, demonstrating that with dedication and the right support, positive change is not only possible but achievable.
